THE PLAN
We will meet at the Sportsman Club at 2:00pm on Friday the 22nd.( Subject
to enough adults for transportation of scouts.) We will travel via RT. 44 to
West Canton and take Breezy Hill road at
Satan’s Kingdom onto Puddletown Road which becomes Farmington River Turnpike.
We will leave the vehicles at a small parking at the trail head and start our
hike no later than 4PM. We will hike approximately 2.1 miles to a camp location
for the first night. Sunset is at 6:15 PM with total darkness by 6:40PM.
On Saturday we will hike approximately 10 miles of the trail going past
Ski Sundown, Pine Mountain and along the eastern ridges of Barkhamsted
Reservoir. On Sunday morning we will finish with approximately 4.7 miles of
trail continuing through Tunxis State Forest north to Rt. 20 just north of East
Hartland center.
All scouts and adults must carry food for Friday dinner, Saturday
breakfast, lunch and dinner and Sunday breakfast. All hikers should also carry a
minimum of two quarts of water with purified water acquired on the trail.
Scouts should also bring $10.00 spending money for lunch on trip back
Sunday. We will be back at the Sportsman Club on Sunday at 2:30 - 3:00 PM.
All scouts wishing to work on Hiking or Backpacking Merit badges can fulfill or partially fulfill requirements for these merit badges on this hike. Please remember to pack
